Festivals in Abruzzo - Part 2Festival season really ‘kicks off’ in Abruzzo during the summer months.   So here are more festivals for  the latter half of the year.  Please notes any dates/venues given are as accurate as possible but it is always better to check with the local tourist office to avoid disappointment.

JULY

The Turks and St. Margerite

This great historical re-enactment takes place in Villamagna during July.

AUGUST

Palio del Pupo

Cappelli Sul Tavo plays host to the Palio del Pupo costumed races in August.

Cepagatti Historical Parade

A colourful parade with many floats, fireworks and and lots of celebration thrown in – Cepagatti.

Trout and Shrimp Festival

Festivals in Abruzzo - Part 2This popular festival takes place every year in Popoli, one of the towns in the Peligna Valley.

Palio of the Puppets

A spectacular festival featuring a parade of giants puppets, and of course ending with fireworks in Cappele Sultano.

Celano Costumed Procession

The castled town of Celano hosts a costumed procession with fireworks, also in August.

SEPTEMBER

Medieval Pageant and Horse Race

Lanciano is the setting foe a medieval pageant and horse race every year in September.

Festival of the Madonna of Loreto

Featuring the traditional, and tough ‘Gypsy bare-foot race’ (usually first Sunday in September) the Festival of the Madonna of Loreto takes place in the mountain town of Pacentro.

OCTOBER

Culinary Festival

Festivals in Abruzzo - Part 2This annual Culinary Festival in Villa Santa Maria attracts world class chefs in the region for a three day period in October – demonstrating techniques and dishes that date back centuries.
